Colorado King Soopers and City Market Locations to Host National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Oct. 25

Colorado communities are invited to safely and conveniently dispose of unused and expired medications

According to the Cardinal Health Foundation, nearly 70 percent of people who misuse prescription drugs obtain them from a friend or family member’s medicine cabinet. To help prevent misuse and promote safe disposal of expired or unused prescription drugs, select King Soopers and City Market pharmacies across Colorado are partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and local law enforcement for the 2025 National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

This Saturday, Coloradans will have the opportunity to safely dispose of these medications, which are collecting dust in their medicine cabinets, all without adding an extra stop in their already busy Saturday afternoon schedule. Full take-back event details are below.

When: Saturday, October 25th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Participating King Soopers (see below)

How: Simply show up with unwanted pills, patches, gels, and liquids for proper disposal by law enforcement officers

Participating King Soopers locations include:

  • 6350 Sheridan Blvd., Arvada
  • 14967 Candelas Pkwy., Arvada
  • 25701 E Smoky Hill Rd., Aurora
  • 5544 Promenade Pkwy., Castle Rock
  • 15051 E 104th Ave., Commerce City
  • 13 Market St., Eagle (City Market)
  • 131 Market St., Alamosa (City Market)

“We’re proud to play a part in making the safe choice the easy choice,” said Colleen Lindholz, president of Kroger Health. “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day gives our communities a convenient space to dispose of unused or expired drugs, promoting safer environments at home and aligning with Kroger Health’s vision to help people live healthier lives.”

“Cardinal Health is dedicated to fostering healthier communities in the areas where we live and work,” said Jessie Cannon, president of the Cardinal Health Foundation. “Our support of Kroger Health on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day offers a safe disposal option for unwanted medications and creates a crucial opportunity to educate individuals on medication safety, contributing to more equitable health outcomes.”

Since 2018, Kroger Health, with support from the Cardinal Health Foundation, has collected more than 220,000 pounds of unwanted or expired medications through these events, serving more than 86,000 visitors nationwide.
